Isso porque <i>endo<\/i> significa &#8220;dentro ou interno&#8221;, enquanto <i>od\u00f3ntos<\/i>, &#8220;dente&#8221;. Ou seja, a Endodontia \u00e9 respons\u00e1vel pelo diagn\u00f3stico, terap\u00eautica e profilaxia das doen\u00e7as<span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-size: 1rem;\">&nbsp;que afligem a polpa dent\u00e1ria, todo o sistema de canais radiculares e tecidos periapicais.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Sendo assim, o tratamento da Endodontia, conhecido popularmente por \u201ctratamento de canal\u201d, consiste na remo\u00e7\u00e3o do tecido mole que se encontra na parte mais interna do dente (c\u00e2mara e canal), que recebe o nome de polpa.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>O profissional especialista na \u00e1rea \u00e9 o endodontista. Indo al\u00e9m do conhecimento para o tratamento de c\u00e1ries profundas, tamb\u00e9m atua diretamente na corre\u00e7\u00e3o de trincas, fraturas ou at\u00e9 mesmo outros traumas que venham a comprometer a estrutura interior do dente e a sa\u00fade bucal do paciente.<br><\/p><p>A polpa pode estar sadia ou infectada e, quando removida, \u00e9 substitu\u00edda por um material obturador. Esse tratamento ocorre quando existe uma inflama\u00e7\u00e3o decorrente de um processo carioso ou outro tipo de agress\u00e3o tecidual.<br><br>Al\u00e9m disso, \u00e9 importante que outros procedimentos de reconstitui\u00e7\u00e3o do dente, como restaura\u00e7\u00e3o, coroas, incrusta\u00e7\u00f5es, tratamento gengival, etc, sejam realizados corretamente.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Caso o paciente opte por n\u00e3o realizar o tratamento da Endodontia, poder\u00e1 se desenvolver uma les\u00e3o na regi\u00e3o apical do dente (infec\u00e7\u00e3o na raiz e nos tecidos vizinhos), que poder\u00e1 ter consequ\u00eancias mais s\u00e9rias, como dor intensa, incha\u00e7o, febre e bacteremia (bact\u00e9rias na corrente sangu\u00ednea).
